Please follow the steps in this guide to set up your Dymo LabelWriter series printer in Mac OS-X. Prior to this setup, make sure that you have plugged in and powered on the printer, installed the driver (see below), and that you've done a successful test print (that option will be there for you at the end of the setup procedure).
Many times, the driver that comes on the installation with the printer is an older version, so you might want to check the manufacturer's site for the latest version.
Currently, label printing is only guaranteed to work on Chrome browser.
Rose supports three label sizes.
Please note that when buying labels, the official Dymo labels have punchouts between labels so the printer knows where to stop. We have clients who have purchased some labels that do not have the punchout, and will not work. Be careful when buying the labels to make sure that they have the punchout (some generic brands do this correctly).
Configure the Printer Driver
Once you have the best version of the driver (we currently support LabelWriters) installed, you will want to open your System Preferences and then click on Print and Scan. Next, click on the + button to add the printer.
See 2021 ALERT below for a workaround for printing:
You still need to set 30334 as the default label before following the steps in the Alert. Continue setup below:
Complete Printer Setup in MacOS
To configure the settings for the printer itself, open either Chrome and enter the following:
http://localhost:631/printers/
If you get an error with the screen not loading. You need to enable CUPS first on your Mac.
To enable CUPS for your computer, first highlight and copy: cupsctl WebInterface=yes
Next, click the magnifying glass Search icon in the upper right and enter Terminal, then click to run the application.
After Terminal opens, you will see a cursor flashing: paste what you copied and click Return to run the setting.
You can close Terminal after it completes the setting. You will now be able to access your printer configuration from the localhost.
Localhost Configuration
You will see a list of all active printers once the localhost opens. Click on the Dymo and a page will load showing the printer attributes.
Click on Set Default Options.
Select 30334 (2-1/8" x 1-1/8") for the paper size. Keep this as the default whether you use the 1x1 or jewelry label, as Rose builds the labels off the the default 30334 size. Set Default Options button when finished.
Note: if for some reason you don't see the specific label numbers for your Dymo printer, select Custom Size from the Media Size drop list and select 2.125 x 1.125 in inches for the 30334 labels. You will use this size regardless of the label you actually print on .
Run a Test Print
Next, run a test print. Go to Inventory and search for a barcode to print or create an item within the Take-In screen and click the label icon to print a label.
